To start the year off, I figured why not start off with a winemaker! It is my great pleasure that we will be hosting the founder and winemaker behind Bravium Winery, Derek Rohlffs.

Derek got bit by the wine bug after visiting Mayacamas vineyards in Napa, and from there got his degree from UC Davis in viticulture, and from there, went to work under some legendary wineries!

"While working a marketing job by day, Derek traveled the globe to hone his winemaking skills, visiting renowned producers like Domaine Tempier in Provence, France, Leeuwin Estate in Margaret River and Henschke in Eden Valley, Australia, with later travels to Gaja in Barbaresco, Italy. In 2007, Derek founded his own winery, Bravium, intent on producing coastal Pinot Noir and Chardonnay."

As a personal fan of minimal intervention winemaking, these wines speak clearly and with confidence in their ability to show a sense of place, and as someone who previously sold this wine in my distribution days, I absolutely leapt at the opportunity to showcase these wines with the man behind them himself!

I look forward to tasting these great wines with y'all!

Salud!

2020 Bravium Blanc de Noirs, Wiley Vineyard Medocino County
$44.99

Brilliant, light copper color. Lively ripe peach, cherry, raspberry, and nectarine fruit with a sweet custard backing. Hints of orange peel and herbs mingle with the bright, fresh fruit. Energetic and fresh. Texturally rich and savory with light miso notes and saline acid that is resolved and well-integrated. Pure, dynamic, and finessed with a dry but quenching finish that is exceptionally flavorful and persistent. This wine is already showing the lightly autolytic character you would expect from a reserve wine that has aged much longer. This is the result of fermenting and aging the base wine on the lees for ten months in neutral oak barrels before tirage bottling, effectively fast-forwarding the aging process.

2022 Bravium Chardonnay, Russian River Valley
$24.99

Brilliant medium-gold color, with honey, pear, apple, pineapple, lemon oil, and white flowers aromas, and a judicious framing of vanillin oak. This white wine was aged nine months in French and Hungarian oak (19% New).

2022 Bravium 'Outlier' Pinot Noir, Lake County
$29.99

Moderate garnet color in the glass. Alluring aromas of purple plum and grape, spice and burnt tobacco. Hearty on the palate with engaging flavors of blackberry, black cherry and Hoison sauce, finishing joyously long and dry.

2022 Bravium Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley
$32.99

Red cherry immediately pops from the glass, followed by juicy cranberry and pomegranate, plus a bouquet of roses, violets and lavender. The palate of this wine incorporates a fine-grained, sandy tannic texture alongside generous acidity and balanced alcohol, with additional notes of well-integrated oak.
Editors' Choice

2022 Bravium Pinot Noir 'Single Ridge' , Medocino Ridge
$49.99

Single Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir is aromatic and complex, with trademark white pepper, soy, rose petal, and garrigue notes wafting from the glass. The exotic aromas presage blackberry, dark cherry, and orange peel flavors. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and intense, with bright acids and excellent focus and grip. This pinot noir is a perfect snapshot of Signal Ridge Vineyard.
