Located in Washington’s Red Mountain AVA, just 15 miles west of the Tri-Cities, Quintessence Vineyards now comprises the largest contiguous vineyard property on Red Mountain. Quintessence Vineyards is a 410-acre parcel of land with a base elevation of 675 feet, rising to 1,025 feet as it reaches the AVA’s southwest-facing slopes. They currently grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and several other varieties — with Cabernet Sauvignon comprising 229 acres within the 300-acre vineyard. Shaw Vineyard is located on the southwest-facing slope of Red Mountain. This 130-acre vineyard was designed and planted with the sole purpose of producing intense and complex Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Double Barrel begins with a juicy nose with expressive dark fruit aromas that waft from the glass with dusty florals and fine, brown baking spices. Full-bodied and generously textured, the mouthfeel is firm with delightful juiciness across mid-palate, youthful tannins, thoughtful complexity and dark fruit flavors. The wine continues to evolve in the mouth for moments, leaving behind notions of roasted coffee beans, vanilla and chocolate-covered cherries.
